Affordable Movers LLC

Prior to chosing  Affordable Movers in Bel air,  I asked for a walk through so I could be able to comparitivly shop.  I was told they did not do walk throughs.  I was quoted $495.00 and was asked to put $100.00 down as a deposit.  When the movers arrived the led walked through I was charged for boxes that they had to carry out, so my bill went to $1270.00 yeah big jump.  Some very valuable furniture was damaged, and another piece was not put on correctly. When I wanted to claim the damage items, I was guilted into not claiming it by the movers, because they stated they were under paid and it would come out of there pay check. I would not recommend this company, or any company like this that does not do walk throughs allowing you to make sound comparative decision.  To me, this was a sham.

This is the second time I have used Affordable Movers. This time, as last time, they were quick and efficient, courteous and careful. I had a 10-year old 56" projection TV, the bulky kind that is actually two pieces bolted together. They loaded and moved it without taking it apart, and it worked as perfectly as it did before the move. Not even any loss of picture alignment, which can happen if it is handled too roughly. I also had a very heavy 50-year old Thomasville dresser; two pieces; held together by only three screws. I was really worried that something was going to happen to it, but as with the dresser it was delivered in exactly the same condition as before the move. The crew (thanks Mike, Matt, Rob and Josh) showed up and got down to business. They were focused and cafreful with everything they were moving. I would not hesitate to recommend the company to anyone. .

Dear John and Christine I am writing to commend your workers Mike, Reggie and Fonz on their professionalism, courtesy and great work ethic in completing my move today. Oftentimes this level of service comes with a high price tag. It is not often that you find a company who is able to marry professionalism with affordability. Affordable Movers has broken from the norm and proven quite the opposite to be true. I am extremely pleased and you can bet I will use Affordable Movers if ever I have the need for local moving services again and I will recommend Affordable Movers to anyone else who I am aware is in need of local moving services.  Kathryn.

I do take full responsibility but felt I needed to write a review because I'm still at a loss. I used the company last year and everything went smooth. Pricing was fair, they had a team of 5 and my belongings went to storage without a problem. Given the pleasant experience, I called on the company again. This time, the experience didn't go so well. I moved some items in besides what the company moved in the first time and asked that they move everything. What I didn't expect was the price to double especially when there wasn't nearly as many items added the first time they moved me. To make matters worse, I wasn't told about the increase until they got to my new place. Needless to say, I was peeved and was told that they would leave with the remainder of my boxes if I didn't come up with the balance. I left to get the money and as I pull up, I saw the owner and his 1 crew member leaving with my belongings. I immediately called and questioned where he was going and he said to get something to eat while waiting on me to return but later said he needed to use the restroom and I hadn't had anything unpacked yet. I was fuming at this point! I asked that he unload my items before leaving and they came back and unloaded. I wasn't given the opportunity by the company to ensure that all of my belongings were off the truck the second time. The first time, I saw everything went into storage because I gave the guys a tip while standing at the truck. As I begin to unpack, I notice I am missing boxes, mostly kitchen items. I was the only person with a key to my storage unit and since I was staying with a relative, didn't need anything except clothes from the front of the unit. I never moved anything they packed inside. I made John aware that I was missing boxes and he stated all of the boxes were taken off. After unpacking everything, it's evident that either my boxes never made it in storage they left when the truck pulled off the 2nd time. I told John exactly what I was missing via text and he told me that I was making up stuff and I was just mad about the additional money I had to pay. I really wasn't making anything up because I know what I had in my home prior to. So now, I'm out of my glass storage bowls and have to replace all the mason jars I purchased right before the move. It took me over a month to decide to write a review because I wanted to make sure that I had unpacked every box and I'm always skeptical about leaving reviews. I take partial responsibility for not requesting to see the truck before they pulled off but being stressed about the move caused me to trust that the job would get done ethically. As it stands, my items are just gone and yes I believe the company drove off with them, why I have no idea. I would never want anyone to have this experience as I was deeply offended that John would assume I was making things up because of the fee. I'm not a liar and have no reason to, besides, when a person invest money into their business purchasing merchandise, what reason would they have to lie? This may have just been an isolated event but I won't be calling back a 3rd time for services and have stopped recommending to my clients and friends/family. I have no recourse except to spend more money to replace what is missing.

My husband hired this company based on a recommendation for moving help that showed up on the uhaul website when we were reserving our truck and packing supplies. Wednesday August 14, 2019 the day they were expected to help, they texted my husband at 9 am to tell him about some issue they were having and that they did not know if they were going to make it or not because they were short two people. That's not really our problem but I digress. They were supposed to be at our house between 11 and 12 but did not show up until almost 4 PM and the two men who showed up were rude and did a horrible job. My husband and brother in law moved most of the heavy furniture themselves hours before the "movers" even got there. They complained about the amount of boxes we had and threw stuff up on the truck to the point where we have to go back to our old home and grab the rest of our things. They broke our chest of drawers and our footboard because of their lack of care. Too bad my husband already paid them or they would've gotten nothing because they didn't deserve the little money they got for the crappy service and horrible truck loading. I've read several other reviews on this site and the BBB site and the owner is very rude in his responses to people based on those. I have yet to interact with him but if he's anything like the people that showed up to our house I don't want anything to do with him either. We are not happy at all. They threw our kids television in between heavy boxes and we have to check it to make sure it's not broken as well. Since they obviously didn't care and didn't want to be there anyway. If you need movers who are punctual, courteous, and who actually want to do the job you're paying them to do then don't call these people.

I hired this company on 9/26 at 10am. The movers called me at 9:15 letting me know they will be 15 min late because of traffic. They did not show up until 11:30am. One hour and a half LATE!! They also broke my jewelry box. I called the owner to let him know I was displeased with the service and his response was "GOOD! I have my money!!" I was in complete shock!! He said he doesn't care about my complaint and that he's been in business for over 16 years and he's never had a bad complaint before and he said he will not reconcile my issue with me because his team could not control the traffic. I asked about my broken jewelry box and then he hung up on me. Bottom line.. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! John Griffin, the owner is a liar and extremely unprofessional! They will tell you anything to get your money!!

First they locked the key in there truck and took a long time to get it out, which held up the process. Then, after busting the window open to get it unlock one of the guys used my bathroom to take a number two with asking me, I heard everything which was disgusting and he left the Toilet with all the nasty stains. He also didn’t have a mask on the entire time during the global pandemic. They ruined one of my dinning room chairs, I’ve called, emailed and left voicemails and no one has answered or returned my calls. My experience was the worst, first and last time using Movers. Especially these people. I wasn’t going to mention anything until I couldn’t even get a answer to them damaging my chair... when there’s something listed in there contact for items being damaged during the move. Quoted me one price and ended up paying more when they arrived after doing their walk through. Do Not Use This Company.

My move was last minute and very unexpected,however Christine worked with my schedule and gave me the perfect time-frame.  The movers, Fonzi, Mike, Garrett and a fourth gentleman (whose name I just can't remember,,so sorry) were awesome.  They were fast and professional, they arrived at 3:50 and had the truck loaded and ready to leave by 4:45, and that included a full walk through for inventory. At our new home the unloading was just as efficient and the guys put everything in its place and re-assembled our beds.  They cost for the move was 485.00 and worth every penny. My four year old was giving them high fives every time they came through the door, and they never skipped a beat..So happy with my experience with Affordable Movers LLC, I would definitely recommend them to friends and family. And, if I ever have to move again I will be calling Christine. Thanks again for taking the stress out of my move..

This was the BEST moving experience, so much so that I even called the moving company directly to let them know how amazing they were and what a great set of guys they had for the job.  I was helping my mom move from Abingdon, MD to Frederick, MD in February of this year (2013).  First off, I received calls from dozens of moving companies when I filled out a moving request on some random website.  Affordable Movers was the ONLY moving company to offer me a flat rate.  In fact, I was a bit skeptical at first because all of the other moving companies I had spoken to said a flat rate was too good to be true, that Affordable Movers would tack on a bunch of hidden fees and at the end of the day, I would be paying an arm and a leg.  Another moving company tried to give me a flat rate but ended up quoting a price that was 400 dollars more.  At the end of the day, there were no hidden fees with Affordable Movers.  You have to make sure that you itemize exactly what you need them to move because if you add anything when they show up, they'll charge you extra.  So the burden is on you (the customer) to be specific and organized enough to know exactly what you're taking, which is only fair.  In order to offer a flat rate, they need to be quick and efficient and can't waste time with you while you make up your mind about what you're moving and what you aren't.  Moving companies who charge you hourly will want to lalligag and even help you pack becaudse the more time they spend = more money.  Affordable Movers sent me a contract before they came out so that I could take my time in reviewing it before they came out and wouldn't have to sign under any pressure.   The only hiccup was that they didn't let me know before hand that a second trip would cost me an extra $200 if everything couldn't go in the truck.  HOWEVER, the movers were experienced enough to make an accurate assessment of the things that needed to be moved and said that they could get it all in one trip.  They promised me that worst case scenario, they would only leave behind things I could take myself.  They kept their word---EVERYTHING fit in the truck. The movers were extremely courteous, professional, and quick.  They took extra care in making sure that they didn't scratch the walls of our new place with any of the furniture they were moving and were patient with us when we made mistakes in letting them know where things should go.  They were nothing short of awesome.  My mom and I were so pleased that we gave them an extra 100 dollars as a tip.  Go with Affordable Movers!!  You won't regret it.

Affordable Movers was fantastic (not to mention a very reasonable price for the move).  My move involved emptying a 16' Pack Rat (also a good experience), making a stop at my apartment (up 4 flights of stairs) to get a heavy sofa bed and dresser, and finally delivering all my stuff to my new place.  Mike and his crew did a great job, they were patient, careful, respectful and very experienced. I was pleasantly surprised with my moving experience. People always complain when things go wrong, so I wanted to let others know that Affordable Movers did a great job. My tip:  be sure to give them a list of your items as accurately as possible and you will not have any surprises on the day of your move.

Overall, my experience with Afforadable Movers, LLC was excellent. The movers arrived late for the move but were very professional and called me ahead of time to let me know that the earlier moving appointment was taking longer than expected. I appreciated this phone call and was able to get other things done while I waited. Even though they had a large move ahead of mine, each staff member was polite when they arrived and helped me with my move. In addition, the staff was very helpful that I spoke with over the phone while completing the inventory list prior to the move. If you aren't sure how to describe a possession that needs to be moved, I would recommend calling Afforable movers before turing in the inventory list. They were very patient with me as I wasn't sure how to describe some of my furniture and needed clarification about whether there might be an additional fee for the bed frame that needed to taken apart and reassembled since I believed it had more than the basic pieces that are listed in the instructions. The instructions are very specific about the inventory list and additional charges that can occur if an individual does not follow them appropriately. I would double check the instructions and speak with the staff if you have any questions before the day of the move to try to avoid receiving additional charges. I did this and had no problems on the day of my move. The price was very reasonable. As stated above, my overall experience was excellent and I would definitely use Afforable Movers, LLC in the future.    .

My family moved from 3 story apartment building to 3 level townhome in the Hanover, MD area.  I had called two other Maryland based companies from Angie's List and Affordable Movers from an internet search for movers in Maryland.  The other two companies did not respond back to my quote request, but Affordable called the same day and gave me an estimate right over the phone.  They were very detailed in obtaining how many boxes, type of furniture, and asked what we needed moved from room to room.  I promptly received an email the same day with a price estimate of what was discussed over the phone. A day before the move I received a call to confirm and on the day of the move I received a call to notify me they were on their way.  Garrett was one of the three movers that day and was very courteous and careful with all of our belongings.  The movers worked hard to get our belongings to our home in a timely fashion.  He managed the move with the other two guys and made sure the entire process went smoothly.  When they arrived to our new home, they made sure  our belongings were put into the correct rooms and even reassembled pieces from the 1st part of the move.  They were everything you would expect how a moving company should operate-PROFESSIONAL. The entire move took about 3 1/2 hours, we couldn't believe it (3 floors both places).  Of course we were only 5 minutes down the road, but from move out to move in and not counting commute those guys were on it!  We were very surprised by the price and glad we called them. I was amazed that Nick and Mike were able move all of our stuff from the third floor apartment to our 3 story townhome in a few hours without gouging walls, scratching floors, ruining our stuff. Nick and Mike stayed on task and took very few, but well deserved small breaks to rest a bit which helped keep the move time way down. These guys put in work! When they arrived I needed to make some adjustments to my inventory and they were flexible and easy to work with. The sales guy John G was also flexible and responded to all of my questions promptly with good solutions. Will use Affordable on our next move because they are very good, flexible, and beat the other 6 moving companies on price, by far.

Had a terrible experience with them last year. Basically my GF received a confirmation call about the move the night before. Day of they were supposed to come between 7-8am. No one showed. We called every hour until noon, until finally someone answered.

Apparently a truck broke down and they were trying to get to us, but that they would be delayed and had no estimate. They said in order to get an estimate, that would only slow them down, so they would call us when they were coming. A few hours later we called again, and the owner flat out lied to us that he had called that morning and the movers had come to the house but we weren't present, and that he had called multiple times. There are no record of these phone calls and we were present at the home during this time and no one rang the bell.

After a few more hours (it's now 5pm, and we were informed they would come between 7-8am), I called multiple times until I finally got ahold of the owner again. Their offices had closed so the number was going directly to his cell. He then berated me, insulted me and my girlfriend, blamed the entire situation on us for not answering our phones or being home, and said if I called again or questioned/interrupted him during the call (he basically wanted to yell at me for 10 minutes) he would tell his crew not to come (interesting, since he said he couldn't get us an estimate on when the crew would come b/c calling them to ask would slow them down too much).

Needless to say they finally showed up around 7:30pm. We asked the head of the movers there about what happened (the actual movers were quite nice and friendly). He confirmed that a truck had broken down, and that they had never called or come that morning.

We understand that things can happen in life. A truck broke down, and all we wanted was honest communication (or any communication). But the utter lack, and then lies by management (specifically the owner) means we'll never be using them again. I would avoid at all costs. Terribly unprofessional.

Pretty straightforward crew- I listed what I needed moved, the to and from addresses and the date, and they reserved it. I made some changes and additions to the list, which increased the total amount, but that was expected. The crew showed up within the window I was told they would, went over the items in the house to take, then methodically packed everything up. Everything showed up at the new location undamaged, and the crew was easy to work with getting things where we wanted them in the house. Very courteous with myself and my wife and careful and conscientious with the boxes and furniture. Would definitely recommend them for a no fuss move.

I have used Affordable Movers twice now- once last summer, and just over July 4th weekend. John is a pleasure to deal with in scheduling the move- even when you make a thousand changes- we had to add quite a few things as well as add 2 extra pickup locations, and he made every update to the contract- quickly. Mike's team does an amazing job quickly yet carefully moving furniture- they really know what they are doing. Even after all our changes, we had 3 or 4 extra pieces of furniture and they didn't charge us a penny more than the agreed upon contract, though it is fully within their rights. Thank you Affordable Mover's- you made our move to the new house a stress-free one, knowing we were in good hands!

John Griffen, the owner was always easy to communicate with, by email and phone, prompt in his replies and estimates as we added a few items after the initial estimate. Mike and Adam, the two movers, were professional, careful, and clearly experienced with dealing with heavier items. This experience was so unlike those we have had with outfits that charge the hourly rate. No surprise additional costs at all. The flat rate system is such a stress reliever, as compared to the companies that charge by the hour. Cannot recommend this company highly enough. Reliable and reasonable rates. Outstanding.

I found a moving company through using MymovingReviews.com. The company Affordable Movers LLC., was right on time with professionalism courteous staff and John the owner whom I dealt with throughout most of the changes to the inventory that was taken. When I called them after reading all the positive reviews I was asked to go through the home while he asked questions gathered a list and sent them to me with a price through email. This was different from any other time using a moving company and I liked dealing with John and the way it was presented. I changed the list several times through email and they where always getting back to me in a fashionably matter of time with an accurate list and new price. I would highly recommend this company to family, friends and anyone in need of the best moving company here in Maryland.

Movers were great all around. Timely, courteous, willing to make exceptions within reason. Will definitely use them again!
We had a 60 mile move within Maryland and were moving from a large SFH to another large SFH. Owner was reachable for any questions or concerns by phone or email.
We had a minor issue with not realizing that shrink wrap would cost extra ( and mover took full responsibility for not telling us and took charges off). Also, as with any company, make sure you tell them each and every item you want moved or you will be charged extra. They do tell you that up front. They did their best to try to work with the grossly underestimated number of boxes and furniture we gave them over the phone :) We were quoted a flat fee of $2650 over the phone ( we had done 80% of our own packing already) and ended up paying a $1000 more due to the extra items we hadn't mentioned. So only caveat - tell them everything you want packed/moved as you will be charged for all packing materials for those items. Also make sure you don't over estimate. We only needed 2 wardrobe boxes but told them 5 just to be safe. They used( and charged us) for all 5 even though all clothes could have fit within 2. 8 great guys hustled and packed and moved us within a day.

Employees Mike, Matt, Fonzie, and Nick of Affordable Movers, LLC were very friendly and professional when they moved me the day before Thanksgiving.  It was snowing and raining almost the entire day, but they took great care with my new home and did not damage any carpets with mud.  They also found a way to take a treadmill and a piano down a very steep, muddy, slippery hill to get them into the basement, which was quite an accomplishment with such heavy items in bad weather.  When you have a big move, you basically end up spending the day with the movers and they were all very friendly and professional, which made the experience that much easier.  I would recommend this company to anyone.
